Washington DC Trip 4th of July

Breakfast at hotel diner wannabe just outside of elevator was yuck. Should have ate across the street at Giant store. Took Metro into DC at the Capital South stop walked short distance to Library of Congress. Most amazing art work, marble and ceilings. I can't remember much of my Europe trip so this was a real treat. I could have sat in there all day reading and researching. It was disappointing I could not take a picture of the floor book area or even buy one. You'd think being a library we could buy bookmarks for souvenirs, go figure. Continuing our walking tour around the Capital was amazing I had no idea it was so large. We passed the Botanical Gardens opting not to go in.

The National Air & Space Museum was next on our list and it did not dissapoint. I will fill in more tidbits later.

National Museum of Natural History was my favorite. We went through at speed record and was still able to capture many pictures and see many exhibits.

National Museum of American History was John's favorite the cars, trucks and manly things. Will add more tidbits later.

Turning south a couple blocks to the US Holocaust Memorial Museum we waited in line for about 15 mins. Bags in x-ray walked through a metal detector and no drinks are allowed. You are not told upon entry to get a ticket to main exhibit, I only realized this myself. It was extremly crowded which really got on John's nerves. We skipped through some of the beginning, because people were just stopped to read forever. I suggest to go through the first part passing others, less crowded in the middle. Very emotional for me to see all the shoes. The smell was horrifying I felt as if I was there in camp searching for a loved one's shoe. The feeling of being lost they were all dead. I was feeling heat and I had to get out. I know, how could I have felt that, I did my arms were burning and I was hot all over. I had to get out, John found a little exit off to the side where you can go out. We weren't the only ones another lady said she could smell burning and felt heat. John and K were normal if not a little cold. Did this other stranger and I feel the presence of what I don't know. What I do know is I wanted to throw up, I needed water and an intense pain in my stomach I was ready to pass out. Has anyone else felt this way passing through the shoes? Outside I felt a breeze and was immensely better.

Walked to the Washington Monument. Fences were all over and we were routed the long way to Lincoln Memorial. Stopped only for a minute at the WWII Memorial.

Ice cream on the steps at Lincoln was nice, still hot but nice. More tidbits later on the memorials.

Walking all the way back to eat at ESPN Zone was a nightmare. Very long walk will never do that again. Who were we to know, the NU VI had died.

Camped out on the lawn waiting for fireworks. Wish I had a sheet.

Packed like sardines in the subway never seen anything like it. Hasn't anyone heard of weight limits cuz we sure were over ours. Please people when you see a full metro wait for the next one.
